Contest: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will hit theaters this summer – the 6th film in the series. Why not catch the finale NOW by reading the page turning final installment of HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS – released in paperback July 7th. It all comes down to this - a final face off between good and evil. You plan to pull out all the stops, but every time you solve one mystery, three more evolve. Do you stay the course you started, despite your lack of progress? Do you detour and follow a new lead that may not help? Do you listen to your instincts, or your friends? Lord Voldemort is preparing for battle and so must Harry. With Ron and Hermione at his side, he's trying to hunt down Voldemort's Horcruxes, escape danger at every turn, and find a way to defeat evil once and for all. How does it all end? Find out in HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS by J.K. Rowling.
You can find out more about the book on the Scholastic site.
Until I was putting this contest together, I didn't think about the July 17 release date meaning I would be in England when the movie comes out. I bet that will be a fun thing to do. (Mocking my lameness will invalidate your contest entries, just so you know.)
This contest is going to have five winners, who will receive a paperback copy of the seventh Harry Potter along with a pin celebrating the 10th anniversary of HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE. (I refuse to believe it's actually ten years old. I should, considering I read it when I was ten and I'm now twenty. But that makes me old! And I just lent my hugely beat-up paperback - it is ten years old - to my seven-year-old cousin. How can she be reading chapter books when I remember her being unable to even crawl?!)
And yes, you can enter even if you have the hardcover because that thing is a beast to lug around. To enter, tell me about a Harry Potter memory: reading one of the books, seeing one of the movies, a launch party, a conversation, whatever. For bonus entries, follow my blog, link to this contest, and/or share a picture of yourself in costume. (What can I say? I like cosplay.)
US only, no PO boxes. Contest ends July 17.
I remember when my dad bought me HP & the Sorcerers Stone. I was probably in 3rd grade and I wondered how I was ever going to read such a thick book.

My favorite harry potter memory is having finished reading the deathly hollows the summer it came out. I was on my way to Mexico and carried that book around with me, reading it, until I was finished. I swear my family tried to speak to me and I completely ignored them because hey, I was busy in the world of HP I didn't want to come back, not for a while anyway. :D I loved reading it, completely blew my mind away. :D
ReplyDeleteNo way is this series 10 years old! Really??? Wow, I'm old too.
ReplyDeleteI just watched all of the movies again in preparation for #6 - can't wait! They are all sooo good - fans of the books don't have much to complain about (unlike many others!).
I remember going to the last book release party. It was my first book release party I went to and I'm glad it was for Harry Potter =)

I remember when the seventh book came out because it was on my nineteenth birthday!
ReplyDeleteBut my main memory is laying in my bed reading the sixth book and actually tearing up! And that never happens...
p.s. the movie comes out the 15th now =)

I can't wait for this movie. it's my second favorite book out of the series and I've loved Draco for a long time, so even though he's a punk, yay for more DRACO! LOL
ReplyDeleteOkay okay, a memory: I remember going to the last book's midnight party and we took a photo with cardboard harry and we sang Ministry of Magic (a wizard rock band that is awesome lol). They had this really awesome line in one of the songs...i forget it now, but it's supposed to be voldemort and all evil and it's hilarious so we said it all night. It was fun. Harry Potter has been in my life for so long...ever since I was about 8/9 and I'm 19 now, so yeah, it's crazy!

I was a Harry Potter skeptic. I vowed I wouldn't read the books, just to prove my counter-cultural tendencies and superiority. I saw the films, though...the first 4 before I ever picked up one of the novels.
ReplyDeleteThen, in 2007, right before the final book was released, I found myself without reading material for a 12-hour flight to Chile. My roommate suggested that I take her HP books. I did, and read the first 6 in a matter of days. Then I salivated for two months like the rest of the HP-reading public for the final installment. I came late to HP obsession, but I'm glad I did. They were worth it.

Me and my friends always go to the openings for the movies together when they release!
ReplyDeletehaha, Harry Potter memories. I was at the midnight release for one of the books, I forgot which one, and we were standing in line when some random guy dressed up as someone (Harry Potter or a Death Eater perhaps? It was hard to tell) came up to me with a wand (that I was able to make out) and pointed it at me and was like "Let's duel!" and I was like "Let's not!" and he kind of gave me this *you're a freak* look and walked away. SO FUNNY.

I remember being to scared to see the first two movies in the theaters, I had to wait for the DVD release... Then when the third movie came out I was brave enough to go to the theater, and since then I have seen the other movies there!

I remember reading POA for the first time and laughing hysterically when Harry goes to Lupins room while everyone else is in Hogsmeade, and Lupin offers him a butterbeer and Harry goes "Butterbeer! I love that stuff" or something of the likes, because he'd already been there and got some, with help from the Map.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why the heck I find that so funny but I do.

I got Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone when I was in the second grade. It was the first 'big book' that I'd ever read at the time. I fell in love with both the series and reading as I read that book. I finished it right before my mom and I went into the movie theater to see it on opening night. Since then, I've been to two Harry Potter release parties. If I hadn't read that, then I don't know if I'd read like I do now.

I remember when Goblet of Fire came out. Because it was such a long book, I carried the book everywhere for a week and read whenever I had a free moment.

I remember when DH came out, I was stalking the mailbox for it. I was too sick to go to the launch party which made me really sad. So, I get the book and I didn't stop for almost anything. I stayed up till 2 AM, reading it. Then I decided to reread it. I was crying for a week over some of the characters.
ReplyDeleteAlso, my elementry school won this huge contest from Scholastic and we got to see the first movie a day early. Our school also got 10,000 books. It was really exciting.

Hi! Just posted this on Win A Book. No need to enter me.
ReplyDeleteI remember the first time i read Harry Potter. It was in second grade when one of my classmates was trying to get my teacher to count reading the book as 3 book since it was so long. This was because in our school we had a contest to find the student that read the most books in a year in our school. As they were battling it out, i took the book and started to read in a corner of the room. I read till the school day was over and cried when i had to give it back. But on the way back home, a boy heard about what happen and lend me his book that he had, That boy was one of my closest friends until the day he moved away but i will always remember him and the gift he left me. A love for Harry Potter and a bunch of great friends that are fans of the book that i would never have met if it wasn't for him and the book.

ReplyDeleteMy best memory was the the second movie. There was an old guy dressed as harry who kept shouting go harry and ow-ow. It was hella funny

My favorite memory is the movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. It was the first HP movie I'd ever seen and it had been out for at least a year or two. But once I watched it I was hooked! I think the movie producers couldn't have picked any better characters to play Harry, Hermione, and Ron.

My favorite Harry Potter memory is linked to my son now 22=)
ReplyDeleteHe read the first book when it came out and was so in awe of it & kept "bugging" me to read it~I admit I did put it off for a while but when I read it WOW!!! We've since re-read each book over and have passed the Harry Potter love to others=) To this day if my son says that I should read a book I don't dally about it!
Thanks so much for the giveaway!

My funniest Harry Potter memory is going with my friends to a bookstore at midnight to get one of the new releases (number 5, I think?). For some reason, we thought it was a good idea to get cocktails beforehand, so I just remember being tipsy and wobbling my way through a bookstore full of little kids in wizard hats.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great giveaway! I like Harry Potter, but my friend is a hardcore fan, so she will be the recipient if I am so lucky as to win!

My favorite HP memory was when I saw Harry and the Potters in concert! I linked this contest, and I follow your blog on Google Reader.
ReplyDeleteI remember buying the book because I was trying to encourage my young son to read more for enjoyment. I loved the book, he waited for the movie. But then he loved the movie so much, he read the book and has read alot ever since.

I drove from NY to FL and back two years ago, and managed to keep my sanity thanks to HP audiobooks! I'll be forever grateful to HP for that!

I remember going to see the first HP movie and waiting to be disappointed. I was very impressed with all of the plot pertinent stuff they were able to shoehorn in.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 kids who have read the Harry Potter books. I had never read one til the day my daughter said that I should the Scorcer's Stone-I did/enjoyed it and went on to read more

I bonded with a work colleague - borrowing her hardcovers two days after she bought them
ReplyDeleteI would never mock you, I love Harry and can't wait for the new movie!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteAlthough I read just about anything I can get my hands on I just hadn't been interested in Harry Potter. I'm a big mystery/suspense fan and I think I must have gotten the idea it was a kiddie book.
ReplyDeleteMy friend kept insisting I should read the first book and she brought me her copy and convinced me to read it. I read one after the other and finished them in record time.
Now I need to go back and read them again because I am sure I read them so fast I missed some important parts. :)

Around 2001-2002 I went to a Harry Potter party. It was silly, but a lot of fun. There was a bizarre attempt at a muggle version of quidditch, a Harry Potter quiz game, and a "sorting hat" with slips of paper in it which divided us into houses/teams, and by winning games we got points to exchange for prizes. There was even a "fat lady" poster and a password from the invitation to recite to be allowed in. Whoever arranged the party must have been obsessed!

Ugh, now you have made me feel old!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory is sharing the book with first my nephew then my daughter. She is 11 now and has read the series twice. At first she just wanted to watch the movies but when she heard her father and I complaining and comparing what was left out, she asked to read the books. Now we all love watching the movies and seeing who can say the skipped something first. LOL It has opened her up to reading for pleasure and I just love that.
My best memory was first reading the Harry Potter books which was over the summer. I read all 7 books in 1 month. I just couldn't stop reading them. I would get done with one and have to pick up the next one just to find out what happens.
