United Through Reading

My brother-in-law is in the Air Force, so I'm particularly supportive of United Through Reading's mission.  They strive "to unite military families facing physical separation by facilitating the bonding experience of reading aloud together."

How do they accomplish this, you might ask?  "United Through Reading helps ease the stress of separation for military families by having deployed parents read children’s books aloud via DVD for their child to watch at home."

You can donate to United Through Reading online, by phone, or by mail.  United Through Reading welcomes volunteers who are over 21 and familiar with military culture.

United Through Reading has a four-star rating from Charity Navigator.
