Today (or tomorrow, if you live in the UK) is National Coming Out Day. That doesn't mean you have to come out today, if you're gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual, asexual, or otherwise not-straight. But think about being public with your support of LGBTQ rights. The world has come a long way, but it is by no means equal. (Even the official site of National Coming Out Day doesn't mention asexuals. Asexual and bisexual invisibility in the LGBTQ community really needs to stop.)
For gay-themed book blogs, check out I'm Here. I'm Queer. What the Hell do I read? and Let's Get Beyond Tolerance. James of Book Chic Club is hosting a LGBT week. There's a lot more lit out there for LGBTQ teens than there used to be, but it can be hard finding it sometimes.
Wonderful post, and thanks for linking to the Let's Get Beyond Tolerance blog. I really appreciate it. Definitly check out the auctions on my Shooting Stars blog and enter the Jumpstart the World giveaways.

One of my very favorite gay-themed novels for teens is "Boy Meets Boy" by David Levithan. It is, in many ways, idealistic but it also makes you wonder why every town isn't like that.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed SAY THE WORD by Jeanine Garsee. I also love what I've read by David Levithan so far.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to my blog, and for all the comments you've left! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, and you're right about asexual and bisexual invisibility. I couldn't find any books in my TBR pile with a bisexual narrator; otherwise, I'd have included it. I found gay (not hard for me, lol), lesbian (though that took a bit of time to realize the title I ended up picking did in fact have a lesbian narrator) and transgender, but no bisexual.
There is the book Splitscreen by Brent Hartinger, which features a bisexual Asian teen and she has her own story in that book. She also is in the previous two books of that series but not as a narrator.
Ohhh! I love the blog: I'm Here. I'm Queer. What the hell do I read. So many wonderful suggestions!
ReplyDeleteStopping by to say hi and give to you a heads up about my upcoming blog tour!!! Hope you will stop by my blog too! My publisher and I are looking for a group of bloggers for a huge blog tour next year before the release of book two in my 'A Sense of Truth' series! We will be giving out a few more copies of The Thirteenth Chime (we can only give out so many, being open to e-books gives an upper hand) and are still open to all interviews and guest posts. We want to fill up the Amazon page with reviews and try to reach as many people as we can!!! Hope you might consider being a part of the team! Thank you either way!
Sincerely,
Emma Michaels
