In Bed With Books: Year One

I started In Bed With Books on March 18, 2008. By that point I'd been reading and reviewing ARCs for years; my ninth grade librarian started me down that path. But I was aware of lit blogs and decided it would be good to start one. Plus I could be more organized.

But here's the real question: Why did I call my blog In Bed With Books?

A) It's true. I do most everything in my bed - eat, sleep, differential equations, read. (Apparently this isn't good for my sleep health. Eh, I sleep like a rock.) My room at home is designed so that you can reach all parts of it from the bed. My dorm room, where this all started . . . not so much. Sadly, my dorm replaced all the furniture this summer so the bed where In Bed With Books started no longer exists. (Happily, I like having new furniture.) But here you go:

That would be me, updating the blog, in the usual place. Yes, I am terrified of heights. The extreme loft took a long while to get used to.

This is a worse photo, but I've actually got a smile in it. Yeah, I'm a little vain.

So there you go. In Bed With Books is literal. It's where I curl up with the books and where I write the blog.

B) The student magazine I write for was doing an "In Bed" themed issue when I started the blog. My article was about books to read in bed. I went with it, since it made sense given my lifestyle. Why rack my brain when a blog title fell into my lap?

So now it's been a year. This blog has been written in four beds, on three computers. (For those wondering: dorm bed, my bed, my bed at my dad's, new dorm bed, my lappie, mom's comp, dad's comp.) Here's to another year. Hope ya'll enjoyed my first as much as I did.

  1. I do everything in my bed too, my rooms have always been designed so I can reach everything from my bed and I had a roommate in college who was one of those people that really believed it is bad for you sleep health and refused to even sit in her bed during the day. We couldn't have been more different but i love her!
    Happy Blogiversary!!!!

  3. Happy Blogiversary!

I wish I could do some of my updating in bed, but instead I only use it to sleep and read!

  4. Give me 5 cos I'm another I-do-everything-on-my-bed girl : ) It's so great doing stuff and then you can fall asleep whenever you want. Your bed looks great, esp when you have all the fabulous books under you. I'm so jealoussss

And that's a nice picture. Love the smile ^^

  5. I love my bed :) I don't ever want a HUGE house (okay, maybe a little) - I think I could live on my bed and be perfectly happy!

Your loft looks comfy, but I'm always scared of rolling over the edge. I knew a girl once on my dorm floor who fell from her loft right before Finals week and broke her writing arm...and hopefully I did not just jinx you :P

I'm afraid of heights too. Just looking at that first picture freaks me out. LOL

During college, the bed was definitely the main place to do everything!!

  14. Happy Blogiversary! I'm so impressed that you're doing this while you're in college - my son says he has very little time to read for pleasure.

  16. Congratulations!!

And I would do everything in bed if I could as well -- My husband says I am the only person he knows who (pre-kids) could sleep late, take a nap and go to bed early! And in between the best place to read is bed, of course :-)

  18. Happy belated Blogiversary! Heh, love your loft bed/desk combo there! Though knowing me, if I had that, I'd fall off the bed...more than once...and forget how close to the ceiling I am and smash my head into it...more than once...

  19. Wow - that's a pretty cool bed, especially how your desk is like right under it and stuff! (How's the lighting down there though? ;) haha I'm kind of scared of heights too. In fact, back when I had a bunk bed, i had to sleep on the bottom bunk with my toys on the top because I'd fall out of bed sometimes.

    Happy belated blogoversary!

  22. I'm always in bed with my books too. Reading is so relaxing.

  23. I tend to do most of my reading in bed as well, mostly because I can't be comfortable anywhere else. If I'm on the couch I tend to slouch down until I'm lying down anyhow, on a train/bus/plane/chair I tend to slouch until I'm pretty much laying at a 90 degree angle with my back flat on the seat...so why not cut to the chase?

    Happy Blog-aversey!!

  32. Whenever we move, the first room I set up is my bedroom - too bad for the kids, but I need my bed. And we love big beds, so that even the kidlings have Queen or King-sized. *ahh* I need a nap.

  33. Happy belated blogiversary! That bed looks comfy, albeit too high up for my comfort. :) I also admire you for doing this while in college ... wish we had blogs back then (hell, we didn't have the INTERNET).
